Mr. Niceswanger has tried to balance a busy law practice with community activities throughout his professional career.  While clerking for the Kansas Supreme Court, he became actively involved in Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Topeka, Kansas.  In addition to serving as a big brother himself, Mr. Niceswanger was also active with fund-raising and other activities in the BB/BS organization.

In 1989, he founded the legal services division of the Good Samaritan Project of Kansas City with a goal of providing persons who are infected with, and affected by, HIV in the Kansas City area with access to legal resources to address health care, estate planning, employment, insurance, and other issues.  The project provided assistance to hundreds of individuals over the years while Mr. Niceswanger was active with the organization.  In addition to providing volunteer legal assistance, Mr. Niceswanger also served as a member of the Board of Directors.  He has participated in the Kansas City Volunteer Attorney Project for over a decade.

With the arrival of children in his life, Mr. Niceswanger became involved as a sponsor and coach of youth sports teams.  His sponsorships have included teams from kindergarten through high school level.  Mr. Niceswanger has also coached flag football and baseball dating back many years.  He currently coaches the 12U AAA Land of Oz Royals, which is a nationally ranked youth baseball team in Kansas City.
